Part 1
# of followers I started with: 0
# of followers at the end of the course: 12
Percentage of growth: 1200%
One thing that worked to help me gain followers was using hashtags in my Twitter posts. A lot of times, if I would use a lot of broad hashtags in a post, I would check Twitter the next day and have two or three more follows from people I didn’t know. Another thing that worked was following people first. Since I didn’t have a Twitter before this class, if I followed someone I knew from class or just in general, they would follow back because they didn’t know I had a Twitter since I didn’t have one before. Also, whenever I posted an image or a video it would get more attention and gain followers. If I mentioned someone in a tweet it caught people’s attention. Keeping up with these techniques will increase my network for sure. Some other things I could do to increase my following is tweet a lot more frequently, like two to three times a week, and start replying and retweeting to other tweets outside of mine more frequently.
Some things that didn’t work was just following really famous accounts. These famous accounts are entertaining and provide important information, but they don’t get you followers back. In addition, just Tweeting something only with the #NHsmc hashtag didn’t work to gain any followers, I had to add on more hashtags. Also, tweets that just followed the assignment to the minimum didn’t help to get me any followers. It was always the tweets where I went above and beyond the assignment and made the tweet really interesting or funny and included a video or an image that would end up getting me followers.
Part 2
Everyone go buy @4ocean bracelets! And stop using paper straws! #savetheoceans #nhsmc https://t.co/w9KJp6nAWC
— Olivia Lobsenz (@OLobsenz) November 13, 2019
This is my most recent tweet assignment and I’m happy to say it got the most likes. This was for the assignment to share/RT something that will make a difference. So, I went to the 4ocean Twitter page because they are making a huge difference in the world by picking up huge amounts of plastic out of the ocean in an effort to clean up our oceans and get rid of plastic straws. So for this post, I retweeted 4ocean’s post about purchasing a reusable straw and I retweeted with a comment encouraging people to stop using plastic straws and for people to go buy 4ocean bracelets. I got 14 likes and 1 retweet on this. The 4ocean account even liked the post! The post does have pictures in it and they are professional-looking photos that make the post appealing. In this class, I was taught to tag other accounts in order to increase your follower base and gain traction for the post. So, I tagged the 4ocean account directly and it caught their attention because they liked the post. I also learned in this class to use hashtags other than the class hashtag. So I used #savetheoceans which is a very popular hashtag that a ton of people stand behind. So, both these tactics that I learned in class helped to increase the impressions and interactions I got with this tweet.

This tweet was of the first meme I created for the viral content challenge. I tweeted it out to try and gain more views for my meme on Imgur. In this post, I just copied the link to my meme from Imgur and pasted it in Twitter. I got three likes on this which is a lot for me considering I have 12 followers, so its 1/4th of my follower base. This post shows a picture of the meme which is a picture of my friend as a baby with really curly hair just waking up from a nap looking like a deer in headlights. In this class, as I’ve said, we learned to use a lot of hashtags in order to get the tweet more attention from other people. So, in this post, I used #homeworj #baby #cute #relatable. These are pretty general hashtags that I felt would catch the attention of people on Twitter along with the picture of a cute baby.
I wonder which candy will be more popular this Halloween…🤔#candy #Halloween #NHsmc pic.twitter.com/B0f4mkAxlw

This was the post where we had to create a graph comparing two different things. So, I used Google Trends and put in two popular candies, Snickers and Kit Kats. Then, I took a screenshot and posted the graph in my tweet. This post got 1 like but that is actually a good amount for me because I only have 12 followers. I think this post was interesting because it catches people’s eyes since it is a simple graph and people like graphs that are simple to read. In this class, I learned about Google Trends and how to use it. I didn’t know about Google Trends or how to use it until this class, so the class taught me how to carry out this assignment. I also learned to be timely when tweeting things. So, since Halloween was coming up at the time of this assignment, I did candy because candy is on a lot of people’s minds as they are looking forward to Halloween. I felt this was a good time to compare the popularity of two candies because Halloween and candy go hand-in-hand. I also used the hashtags #candy and #Halloween because I felt those were popular hashtags at the time that would catch people’s attention.

This was the post for the gif I made. I created the gif in Imgur by grabbing a clip and snipping it down to be about a second long. I then attached the link from Imgur into the tweet. I got 2 likes and 1 retweet on this post. The media variety in this is good because it is a gif, so it moves which I think catches people’s attention to gain more engagement. I learned how to make a gif in this class so that knowledge helped me create and engaging and fun gif that would catch the attention of other people on Twitter. I also learned to post at a time when a lot of people who would like the content would be on Twitter to increase engagement. I posted this at 9:38pm which is when a lot of college students and teenagers are scrolling through Twitter before going to bed or while doing homework so it is a good time to catch their attention and get more views for the Tweet.
FINALLY October is here…meaning it's officially acceptable to order a PSL #October1st #NHsmc pic.twitter.com/AYl1Iz49WV

This tweet was for the assignment was to use a trending hashtag from Twitter to create a tweet. It was the first day of October when I was doing this assignment so one of the most trending hashtags was #October1st. So, I took a gif of different aspects of October and fall that people love like trees changing color, pumpkins, candy and fall weather and I put it in the tweet. This tweet got 1 like and 1 retweet. I used the skills about posting something when it is timely in this tweet since it was October 1st I knew a lot of people would be looking for fun fall pictures so I included that in my tweet.
Just a casual Friday brunch with Eric Vanderwoodsen #starstruck #gossipgirl #NHsmc pic.twitter.com/Q6RZ6nMwWX

This tweet was for when we had to create a “twitter moment.” So, when I was out to brunch with my friends, we saw Connor Paolo, better known as Eric Van Der Woodsen, from Gossip Girl at “Oh my Darling” restaurant. So, I took a video of him at brunch and the uploaded it to Twitter for the assignment. This post got 4 likes and 112 views. It is a video, so I think that caught the attention of people. In class I have learned to create unique and interesting content to post on Twitter and that everyone nowadays is a journalist with their phones. So, in keeping that in mind I used my phone to create my own Twitter moment with my beloved Eric Van Der Woodsen.

The assignment for this was to share a meme. So, I found a meme of two dogs with the caption “When your parents try Skype for the first time” and then I captioned the meme myself saying “My parents when we FaceTimed yesterday…” This post has a meme in it which gained attention. It got 2 likes. This class taught me a lot about creating relatable content on your Twitter that also shows your likes and interests. I love dogs a lot and love my parents so this was a perfect meme to sort of relate to the other people who follow me (other college students) as well as show some of my interests in a tweet.
This post was created on Instagram and it shows a picture I took on my trip to Montana this past summer. It was for the assignment to include a trending emoji in an Instagram post. So I put the heart emoji because it was and is always trending. I used a filter on the picture to bring out the colors. This class has taught me to post visually appealing content which is what I did with this beautiful and unique picture of Montana.
This was for the Instagram assignment to create an Insta gallery with at least two images that are curated. When I was doing this post I was really missing my dogs from home. I have two dogs and I had pictures of both of them on my phone. So I made a collage with two pictures, one with each dog. I got two likes on this post. I think the cute pictures of dogs made it a great post.
On this #followfriday I'm catching up on my favorite makeup artists! Follow @jamescharles @JeffreeStar @KylieJenner for the best makeup tips! #makeup #NHsmc https://t.co/1ylJaczFPb pic.twitter.com/uxPlfEE6uB

This was the assignment to create a public Twitter list via Tweetdeck and promote three people in that list and to include #followfriday in the tweet as well as include rich media. So, I made a list with James Charles, Jeffree Star and Kylie Jenner for the best makeup tips. Then I took a screenshot of some of their posts and included it in the tweet. I got 1 like on this post. I learned how to make a public Twitter list on Tweetdeck in this class which helped me complete this assignment and I learned how rich media helps a tweet do well and gain more traction so I included this in my tweet.
