PART 1: INFLUENCE
BENCHMARK
- Began at 0 followers
- Ended at 39 followers
- Personal Growth: 100%
WHAT WORKED?
- For me, as cheesy as it sounds, being myself worked. Although I created my Twitter account for this class, I found the most engagement from my followers came from the Tweets that were the most natural for me. I enjoy creating content that I find most relatable, which is why I believe most of my “stressed out, hungry, and sleep-deprived” Tweets were the most successful. While I took a humorous approach on engaging with my audience, I believe by inserting my voice into my Tweets, I found I received the best engagement.
- Hashtags were a crucial aspect of my content. A few of my top Tweets include breaking news story with trending hashtags that attracted the most engagement for my content. This allowed me to participate in important conversations in today’s society and engage with people outside of my followers.
WHAT DIDN’T WORK?
- I found what didn’t work for me to be interesting because while my followers consist mostly of peers, classmates, and a few random accounts, when I took a more serious approach on certain topics I find interesting for my future career I did not receive the high engagement I hoped for. However, after following certain advertising and public relation accounts and creating content regarding these fields, I received followers in these fields.
- It was interesting to see that although this specific content didn’t work with my direct followers, by using key hashtags and discussing topics of interest in these fields, I received several followers.

HOW DID I EXECUTE THIS?
- As the California fires continues to be a breaking news story, I decided to join in on this conversation. By using the trending hashtags, I attracted engagement outside of my followers. I also had someone comment back on this post asking for advice on if she should make travel plans towards this area that day, which was interesting to see how much of an impact my Tweet had.

HOW DID I EXECUTE THIS?
- After hearing of Ed Razek’s disturbing comments regarding the purposeful choice of not including plus-size and trans models in the Victoria’s Secret fashion show, the trending hashtag #CancelVS took to Twitter. To participate in the conversation, I decided to quote Tweet Jezebel’s Tweet and add a personal comment to make my followers aware as well. This was a huge story, which allowed this Tweet to gain the most awareness.

HOW DID I EXECUTE THIS?
- By using the app “Repost,” I was able to engage with my audience by re-sharing someone else’s content. I chose this picture because this is something I personally engage with and would post. I gained high engagement, including likes and comments, due to the mass amount of hashtags the original account used.

HOW DID I EXECUTE THIS?
- Similar to my other “repost” content, this Instagram post received high engagement as well. The difference between the two is the previous post included a significant amount of hashtags, while this post focused more on text. I enjoyed re-sharing other account’s content because it allowed me to give my followers a better understanding of my lifestyle, while still giving the original account credit and engagement.

HOW DID I EXECUTE THIS?
- I decided to share a post of my dorm room from last year to test out if this type of content would be effective. It turned out to gain awareness and received likes from followers as well as others potentially following the trending hashtag I used including, “#dormlife.” This content proved to be effective due to it being aesthetically pleasing and enjoyable to see on users’s timelines.

HOW DID I EXECUTE THIS?
- This was my part of my paid promotion for the Meme Challenge and received a skyrocketing engagement rate. However, I found it interesting that my impressions on the Tweet itself were not as high as my other organic content I put out. I also pinned this to my timeline for maximum awareness.
MY OVERALL REFLECTION
- Analyzing my content over the past few months has given me a much deeper understanding of social media as well as different tactics on how to maximize engagement. Throughout my analysis, I believe it is important to include comical, relatable, and most importantly, an opinion in your content. Social media has skyrocketed the idea of freedom of speech, with some positive and negatives, however, when you create content that displays your opinion or gives people something to think about, that is where the most engagement will come. Social media has blurred lines with storytelling and journalism. By including images to tell my stories and engage with individual platforms, I grew to understand the best ways to interact with the public on social media.
- By interacting with different data analysis platforms, including Twitter Analytics, Twitter Ads, SquareLovin, CrowdTangle, and more, I was able to see my content’s outcome start to finish. This will help me in the future understand the type of content I want to create on all social media platforms.
