My Social Media Influence on Twitter

Over the course of the semester, we have been tracking data from our social media use. This post features my top 10 tweets of the academic session that included the #NHsmc hashtag. Let’s take a look at the results:

This was my most engaged tweet of the semester for a few reasons. First, it included rich media for the audience in the photo collage. Secondly, It is a sappy post that people would be more willing to click on because it pulls on the heartstrings. It is a light subject and the tweet is fairly simple to read.

This tweet featured a few mentions from accounts that have a decent following. The Final Four hashtag also was very relevant and trending at the time. I’m sure this tweet found it’s way into multiple search results from people all over the Syracuse area.

This tweet was about a relevant news topic when Bruce Springsteen cancelled his show in North Carolina because of the legislation that was deemed anti-LGBT. The truth hashtag probably brought more eyes to the post as well as the link to the news article.

The tweet of my early workday is really not that special and I think one of the main reasons for the engagement was the rich media that was attached. The media included its own text as well which probably drew a few more eyes in. Not only that, but the post was sent out at a peak time in the day (7:30am) when I suspect that many people are checking their Twitter feeds for the first time after waking up. I’m sure my slight use of sarcasm also stirred a couple of my friends to like the tweet.

I was very surprised that I received so much engagement that I did on this tweet. That has to be the most likes I have ever gotten on any twitter post I have done in the past. I get that the Social Media hashtag plays a huge role in the attention to the tweet, but it was also posted at 12:39am! Now, I’m sure some of the likers were not in the Eastern Time Zone when they first saw this tweet, but either way I was appreciative of the traffic that came through my page for it!

This post included an emoji which probably caused a little more engagement to the overall tweet. My heavy sarcasm here with some of the unique hashtags added to the totals as well. I thought it was a clever way to vent about my small, frustrating life issues and I am happy with the engagement turnout. Maybe someone who can fix the scheduling issues saw the tweet!

This is another tweet with plenty of hashtags and mentions riddled throughout the message. That drives people to view the media from the viral content challenge. This post served it’s purpose and I was kind of shocked that it didn’t do any better than it did given the hashtags, links and mentions.

This tweet saw impressions because of the clever tease I gave to the story. Sort of like a click bait situation, I lured the audience to click on the link so they can find out what Barry Bonds has to say about Brice Harper. The trending lightning bolt also symbolizes I pulled it from the moments tab. That might have had something to do with the high numbers as well.

The only reason these last two posts got any traffic was because Professor Grygiel’s handle mention was attached. She has a decent following and when she is mentioned somewhere, people probably want to know what is happening with her. These tweets were a part of the Periscope activity we did in class and I am sure the hashtag brought more of an audience in as well.

As I mentioned in the previous paragraph, this live-tweeting example only brought in so much attention because of Grygiel’s followers. Her influence alone drove my live tweet into the top 10, twice!
