My Top Hits of #NHsmc

Influence

Over the course of the semester I gained 18 followers, bringing my total number of followers from 241 to 259. This 7.47% increase was mainly a result of following influential social media professionals. I found that when I followed and was retweeted by these people of high influence, I gained lots of followers. While this was a good strategy at first, I found that over time I lost a lot of these followers. I also gained follows from members of our class and other friends that I found on Twitter. Once I followed them they quickly followed back. Many celebrities did not follow me back (as to be expected), but I did gain followers every time I followed a celebrity.

I was really happy with how much my Klout score increased. I went from 26 to 43. I think the jump was, again, a result of interacting with influential social media professionals. Many of them retweeted my tweets. I also got interaction from a lot of high profile people I mentioned in my #FollowFriday posts as well as interaction from brands during a twitter party that I participated in during the semester.

When it came to tweet performance, I found that tweets about my personal life did not perform as well. When I talked about a general feeling or event, included a gif and used a hashtag, I found the tweet did much better.

I learned that Twitter is all about interaction. If you reach out and follow or engage with someone, they are likely to engage with you back. It really surprised me that many high profile accounts liked or replied to my tweets. I think growing your Twitter following is all about putting yourself out there and engaging with everyone from celebrities to friends to professionals in your field.

Top 10 Tweets

1.

This was my most successful tweet from the semester. I tweeted a high profile social media influencer who then replied and retweeted my tweet. This lead to many more retweets, favorites and followers from other people in the social media industry. This tweet actually got more impressions than my $5 promoted tweet for our class viral tweet challenge. I learned that commenting on other’s work is a great way to start a conversation that can then lead to many new contacts and interactions. (Impressions: 3,681, Engagements: 26)

Another example of a cross-platform success! These images came from my Snapchat which I don’t share with many people. I was really proud of this content and am glad I was able to share it with people on Twitter and that people engaged with it. The 3 likes and 1 comment it received reflected the success I had with it on Snapchat where many of my friends would comment on my new postings. (Impressions: 548, Engagements: 87)

7.

This tweet was an example of evergreen content. I tweeted it one time then tweeted it again a month later. It actually got more interactions the second time. I think this is because it was further along in the semester and my followers were getting more and more stressed. I found that generic content was retweeted more often than personal content. (Impressions: 228, Engagements: 9)

8.

I was surprised how well received this tweet linking to my blog was. I think its success was mainly due to the gif I included with it. I learned that including a gif makes your tweet more interesting and therefore increases interaction. (Impressions: 141, Engagements: 12)

Another example of using a gif and tweeting to a specific community. I think people liked this tweet because they could very much relate to it what I tweeted it. One of my favorite tweets as it has to do with the realities of being a New Yorker. I think this was the perfect gif for this tweet and something that other New Yorkers could relate to. I also tried to bring in an audience by using unique hashtags. My three friends who liked  it are all from the NYC area. (Impressions: 137, Engagements: 7)
