#NHsmc Learnings for @RyanPiker

Influence

Twitter Followers: 504->515; +2.20% over the semester

Klout Score: 26-> 29; +3 over the semester (peak 39/+10 on October 31)

Throughout the semester, it became clear that consistent Twitter posts in specific topic areas can have a powerful impact on a user’s Klout score and Twitter audience. I was able to grow my Klout score quite a bit from the weekly Tweet assignments, and I picked up most of my followers by following other engaged users who were commenting on similar matters as I was.

I think my numbers could have been better in both metrics if I had continued tweeting outside of our homework assignments. My Klout score dropped quite a bit when we transitioned to Instagram posts for assignments, and I likely could have maintained or increased that number if I had continued showing love to Twitter. My Twitter follower count also could’ve shown some improvement. In the future, I’ll need to make sure to maintain an active Twitter presence in order to maximize my impact and influence.

Execution

I have assembled my top 10 posts from the semester. These posts all came from Twitter and are ordered by number of impressions. Each tweet has an analysis of what worked and what didn’t below, as well as the tweet’s metrics pulled from Twitter Analytics.

Overall, the tweets that were timely and relatable for the target audience seem to have performed the best. I also noticed that my tweets are not often retweeted, though they do often receive several likes. In the future, I will seek to create more exciting content that elicits those retweets in order to grow my audience even further.

#1: For this tweet, I used relevant hashtags, locations, images, and mentions in order to maximize engagement and impressions. I was hoping to get a job interview out of my attendance and great tweet at this event, but unfortunately that didn’t happen. This tweet received the most impressions and engagements for my account this semester.

Metrics: 2,449 Impressions, 158 Engagements, 1 Retweet, 16 Likes, 2 Replies

#2: For this tweet, I copied a popular meme format I had seen on my feed. This meme stemmed from President Trump’s tweet about “PROBABLY” being named Time Person of the Year. I repurposed it to appeal to my primary audience of peers and fellow college students. This tweet received the most likes for my account this semester.

Metrics: 1,320 Impressions, 95 Engagements, 0 Retweets, 21 Likes, 0 Replies

#3: For this tweet, I created a GIF from a Conan O’Brian interview and used relevant hashtags and mentions. I also retweeted this tweet myself later in the semester for a class assignment, which likely increased its performance. Without my own retweet, this tweet could have been much further down on the list, as it didn’t perform noticeably well in any category other than impressions.

Metrics: 1,269 Impressions, 53 Engagements, 1 Retweet, 6 Likes, 0 Replies

#4: For this tweet, I tried to jokingly connect with my primary audience of peers and fellow college students. Many of us are going through a similar situation as college draws to a close and we search for our next opportunity. I will stay resolute as the process continues. This was my second most-liked tweet of the semester and also the first that drew a reply from Professor Grygiel.

Metrics: 951 Impressions, 70 Engagements, 0 Retweets, 18 Likes, 2 Replies

#5: For this tweet, I practiced a Quote Tweet and used several relevant hashtags and mentions. The NBA player in question, Tyler Ennis, follows me on Twitter, so I was hoping for some sort of engagement from him on this. Unfortunately, that did not happen. This tweet likely benefitted from the hashtags featured in it, as it did not perform very well in any metric outside of impressions.

Metrics: 726 Impressions, 10 Engagements, 0 Retweets, 4 Likes, 1 Reply

#6: For this tweet, I let one of my most influential followers know that he was just that. Since I have a personal relationship with the user in question, I chose to be very direct and use a silly GIF to get my point across. The user responded, which likely boosted the metrics for this tweet.

Metrics: 605 Impressions, 46 Engagements, 0 Retweets, 6 Likes, 1 Reply

#7: For this tweet, I livetweeted along with our class Periscope challenge. I was disappointed to come in second, but overall proud of our performance. The photo and class hashtag likely contributed to the success of this tweet. It was also one of my only tweets that other users from the class liked or quote tweeted.

Metrics: 521 Impressions, 84 Engagements, 0 Retweets, 5 Likes, 0 Replies

#8: For this tweet, I shared my newly created Twitter list in an effort to be noticed by the individuals in question. In retrospect, I should have mentioned them in order to draw their attention to the tweet. Matt Schneidman, who I understand is an #NHsmc alum, did notice the tweet.

Metrics: 479 Impressions, 60 Engagements, 0 Retweets, 4 Likes, 1 Reply

#9: For this tweet, I shared a Google Street View of a room in the iSchool that my friends and I like to use between classes. I think the interesting perspective seen in the photo and the #StreetView hashtag likely benefitted this tweet.

Metrics: 375 Impressions, 41 Engagements, 0 Retweets, 5 Likes, 0 Replies

#10: For this tweet, I was trying to A/B test sharing this link to Jerk Magazine. Calios is a topic near and dear to my heart, so it felt right to use this article for the assignment. I didn’t perform the A/B test correctly, but this execution did perform better than the other one.

Metrics: 374 Impressions, 29 Engagements, 0 Retweets, 7 Likes, 0 Replies
