#NHSmc Viral Content #Selfie

Background

“#SELFIE” is a song by American DJ duo the Chainsmokers which was released on January 28, 2014, by Dim Mak Records. The key lyrics “But first, let me take a selfie” was really popular online, especially for young people. Also, taking a selfie is like a representative style of using social media that almost everyone does in daily life. In order to engage with more people on Twitter, I generate a meme on Imgur through a picture I took for cat Cooky before.

Objective

  • Attract animal lovers/selfie lovers/millienials
  • Collect engagement on Twitter webcard ad Imgur “views”
  • Encourage sharing on different social media platforms
  • Arouse resonance and evoke positive emotions

Goals

  • At least 5 likes or retweet
  • At least 2 new followers
  • At least 3 comments
  • Over 500 engagements/impressions in total
  • Being used on or shared to other social media platforms

Strategy

  • Target audience: millienials, animal lovers, selfie lovers
  • Almost everyone post selfies on social media, and everyone poses like this at least once in their life.
  • Each twitter resonates with our daily life experiences so that audiences are willing to share.
  • Utilizing the character of cat to imitate human behavior: cute animals are always popular topics on social media, which can stimulate people to share easier.
  • Utilizing hashtags to engage with more potential audience.
  • A&B Testing: evaluate which tweet collect the best engagement
  • Specialty of Twitter: Single image is more impressive and easier to share or click because Twitter users prefer to quickly skim through content.

Engagement

  • Generally, I received 6 engagements, which are 6 followers, 5 likes, and 0 retweet.
  • First of all, this content might be “out of date” because this song came out two years ago. There are some meme created by using this sentence online already. It may stimulate more people to share if I can create a more vivid picture accompanied with this sentence.
  • Second, wrong campaign. When I created the campaign for promoting my webcard, I chose the purpose of “Followers” instead of other engagement. This is the reason of less engagement than I expect.
  • Third, wrong expectation. I expect a higher engagement during weekend so I tweet it out everyday of the weekend. But compare to the first two days, the engagement is relatively low.
  • Forth, lack of relative hashtag. Since my target audience are millienials, animal lovers, and selfie lovers. I utilized hashtags #Selfie, #animallovers, and #catoftwitter in each tweet. These hashtags didn’t attract enough potential audiences.
  • Finally, positive ideas. People tend to like and share positive content other than negative one online, particularly fun and happiness. I try to drivethese emotions through my content while I consider my content conforms with the ideas. Therefore, if I improve my problems I mention above, I believe my content can still go viral online.
