The Assignment:
Throughout the semester we were given the task of tweeting two tweets per week. Each tweet revolved around a different topic and way of engaging with our audience. We tracked our success through Twitter Analytics and Klout to try and outdo ourselves as the semester continued.
Below are my top 10 tweets using our class hashtag #NHsmtp and I have ranked them from in descending order with the first one receiving the most engagement. Included are the twitter analytics behind each tweet and at the end is my Klout score analysis.
My Top 10 Tweets:
#1
What's your guilty pleasure breakfast #food? #nhsmtp
— Shannon Connor (@SconnorConnor) March 31, 2016
Analysis: 219 impressions and 55 engagements. I wanted the poll to be a topic almost anyone could have an opinion on and make it enticing enough so that their food of choice won. This tweet was an in-class effort with multiple classmates voting on the poll. I also retweeted the poll on my private account so other users could engage with it who are not following my public account.

Thanks again for having me @crowleywebb I had a great time and met some awesome people #SpringBreak #nhsmtp pic.twitter.com/IpVkikDoFT
— Shannon Connor (@SconnorConnor) March 15, 2016
Analysis: 281 impressions and 33 engagements. We had to comment on what we were up to over spring break and I had the opportunity to shadow with one of Buffalo, NY’s advertising agency, Crowley Webb. The second photo on the right could be edited to look better within the twitter preview, but the point was to get a photo of someone there who inspired me and to capture the agency’s motto.
#3
What do the #Queen and I have in common? Love for colour! #HappyBirthdayYourMajesty https://t.co/ZZRVi8eaQJ An Ode to your Matching Clothes
— Shannon Connor (@SconnorConnor) April 21, 2016
(#NHsmtp was tagged in the reply post)
Analysis: 307 impressions and 21 engagements. Another in-class effort where we went against the clock and each other to produce curated content on a trending topic. Using Twitter’s search and a boolean query, my group picked Queen Elizabeth II’s partiality to matching outfits as our topic of choice. I wanted to include the trending hashtag along with an interesting title to get users to click the link. I tried A/B testing with this tweet and this version came out on the better end of engagements.
#4
Despite numerous sites dedicated to communication, the bulletin board still holds strong. #nhsmtp #socialmedia pic.twitter.com/HhfIVcz82d
— Shannon Connor (@SconnorConnor) January 30, 2016
Analysis: 197 impressions and 19 engagements. The assignments was to find a real-world version of social media that is not located online. I wanted to word the tweet to comment positively on how the bulletin board is one form of communication that will not go away any time soon. Perhaps a different photo that works better in the preview window could have been more engaging.
#5
🚨 #followfriday alert! These 3 creative agencies deserve recognition for their work @BBDOWorldwide @WiedenKennedy and @GreyNewYork #NHsmtp
— Shannon Connor (@SconnorConnor) January 22, 2016
Analysis: 205 impressions and 15 engagements. For our first tweet we were assigned to use the #followfriday hashtag. Being an advertising major, I chose three creative agencies who I follow closely. This brought a like from one of the agencies, Grey NY. To grab their attention I used the revolving red light emoji to make it seem urgent.
#6
Totally crashed @jmgrygiel 's lesson on #Periscope today. #nhsmtp #nhsmc 🙋🏻
— Shannon Connor (@SconnorConnor) March 9, 2016
Analysis: 388 impressions and 15 engagements. The only non-assigned tweet that made it into the top 10. On another tweet (not listed here) I used the hashtag #Periscope and received a lot of engagement and impressions. I wanted to try it out again and by chance stumbled upon Professor Grygiel’s lesson on Periscope to her undergraduate class. I decided to tweet it and hashtag both our class and the undergrad class with an inviting emoji that related to the situation.
#7
When your #Boolean game is strong 👌🏼 #nhsmtp
— Shannon Connor (@SconnorConnor) April 10, 2016
Analysis: 396 impressions and 13 engagements. The goal was to use one of the most-used emojis, which we found on emojitracker.com I related this to another assignment and felt good about how much I have learned about boolean since starting the class. I use it all the time now and wanted to express that achievement through the tweet. Short, simple, and funny.
#8
Just checking out some awards #ADDY #nhsmtp pic.twitter.com/wLNp4EsaZV
— Shannon Connor (@SconnorConnor) April 13, 2016
Analysis: 208 impressions and 11 engagements. This assignment addressed the importance of title-safe images and I had a book of awards with a simple design that I thought worked perfectly. Aside from tagging the class I also included the awards for which the book was made. In the future, I could use a different photo with more interest and/or tweeting at one of the award winners.
#9
Human + sex trafficking is not just men luring children and women. #nfs #NHsmtp https://t.co/opi6RfWQhz
— Shannon Connor (@SconnorConnor) April 14, 2016
Analysis: 225 impressions and 10 engagements. My group consisted of an advertising major (myself) and two journalists. Because of their want to comment on something objectively we chose a topic that hopefully no one can argue with being a major issue: human and sex trafficking. The article we found was part of an organization to spread awareness and help those who have survived and I wanted the content to lead on that there is not one gender who is to blame for this horrible act. Including a photo could have improved the response toward the tweet and given it more emotion.
#10
Really proud of how far I have come since starting at @NewhouseSU and feeling more confident in where I am headed #nhsmtp
— Shannon Connor (@SconnorConnor) April 4, 2016
Analysis: 148 impressions and 10 engagements. This tweet is pretty lack luster. There is only the class hashtag and one twitter handle that is included with an absence of any photo, GIF, emoji, or anything really enticing. Going forward, these tweets will need to feel more “colorful.”
Klout – 90 day Score History
Start Klout: 4 End Klout: 39
My Klout progression mimics what my Twitter Analytics where the more I tweeted and used hashtags and engaging content, the higher my score went up. There were some dips where it fell a little bit if I was more quiet during the week, but overall it showed a trend of moving up.
