Personal Influence Growth and Analysis/Top 10 Tweets

Twitter

At the start of the semester, I had 0 followers on Twitter, which is because I didn’t have a Twitter. As of April 20, I have 82 Twitter followers. My strategy for my Twitter was to maintain professionalism, and to focus on connecting with people in my industry through it. I think I have been fairly successful in using Twitter for this purpose.

Klout

At the start of the semester, I had a Klout score of 48, and currently have a score of 52. My goal for the semester was to get my Klout score above 50, and I would consider myself successful because I exceeded that goal. Aside from Twitter and class assignments, I also worked on being more active in other social media like Pinterest, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.

My Top 10 #NHsmc Tweets

  1. This is a record store in my hometown where you can get used records for just a few dollars. I have always thought it was aesthetically pleasing on the inside, which is why I chose to take a picture of it. I added several hashtags to increase potential engagement. I got some good engagement with people from my hometown through this post because it featured a well-known local establishment. I think that posts with original photography usually do well on Twitter.

2. Portland, Oregon is well-known for its many unique, quirky local businesses. This is a Periscope            of the opening of Woodblock Chocolate, which is Portland’s first bean-to-bar chocolate maker. I            think this tweet did particularly well because, who doesn’t love chocolate? In addition, I think the          link in the form of a quote tweet is effective because tweets with rich media typically see more                engagement.

3. This tweet was the first time I used Tweet Deck. I decided the best way to test it out was to share            my honest reaction/experience with it. I always try to add at least a few hashtags in order to get              more engagement.

4. This tweet is an example of my professional use of Twitter. I often share articles that are relevant          to my industry, which is advertising. Again, I combined an original tweet with rich media to get              maximum engagement.

5. The Office is one of my all-time favorite television shows, and it’s usually a big hit on social media          because of its wide popularity. I’ve found that tweets featuring this show often get a lot of likes,              comments, and retweets.

6. Beer and Wine Appreciation is a very popular class at Syracuse. Since many of my followers are               associated with SU, I chose to tweet something that I knew they would recognize/relate to.

7. The purpose of this tweet was to do a “follow Friday,” so I chose to encourage my followers to                  check out some great photography accounts. I think great pictures are pretty popular on Twitter,            which is why I chose to make the theme of this #followfriday photography.

8. This was my first attempt at a quote tweet. I thought this story, and this stat in particular, was so          crazy, which is why I thought it might receive good engagement.

9. Memes are always the subject of the most popular content on social media, which is why I                         included on by a popular account in this tweet. My goal was to comment on a current event in a            way that would be more interesting than just text.

10. Hungry Chuck’s (R.I.P.) was a very popular bar among SU students. This tweet was for an                        assignment, which was to share an example of real life social media on Twitter. I thought this                  example would do well with my followers who are also SU students/alumni.

In Conclusion…

I’ve found that when it comes to Twitter, my most successful tweets are usually quote tweets with photography or links with previews. I think including rich media is a good way to be more interesting on Twitter. Something else I have learned is the importance of tailoring social media activity to your followers. By learning more about the people viewing the content I share, I am able to make my tweets more engaging for my followers. I have also seen that tweets with original content (photography, blogs, witty comments, jokes) usually receive more engagement than retweets and articles, pictures, etc. created by someone else. The most important social media lesson I have learned is the importance of authenticity. Social media is meant to be a place for sharing, but users are smart enough to recognize when someone seems inauthentic.
