#RealFriends Campaign Analysis

Have you ever had a friend that made a bad decision but you had to support them anyways?

Supporting Your Friends Bad Decisions

Yeah.. most of us have been there.

My meme highlighted the theme of #RealFriends and what that visually looks like. I believed that this Meme would gain engagement because it captured an experience that most college kids have gone through.

My goal for the viral content challenge campaign analysis:

  • Gain 15 retweets
  • 5 comments on Instagram
  • 5 quotes or replies on the meme to show that audience members are engaging with the content
  • Minimum of 500 views on Imgur

My main tool to promote the Meme was the use of Twitter Ads. I conducted a $5 campaign which allowed me to schedule tweets from April 2nd though April 9th. I utilized the #RealFriends hashtag and included captions that I felt would resonate with my audience. For example, in one promoted tweet I captioned “when your best friend dates that guy you don’t like” and included it in the Meme.

These results demonstrate the engagement I received after my campaign ended:

I received a total of 441 views on Imgur, and I believe that the content of the Meme was correctly targeted towards a millennial audience. The first few days of my campaign was very strong because it included a caption and then the Meme. As well as the signature hashtags #RealFriends and #NHsmc. However, I think my greatest downfall throughout my campaign was the lack of hashtags used for each. I should have included more hashtags which would have allowed me to reach more audiences such as #SyracuseUniversity or #BlackTwitter. Capitalizing on these audiences, especially black twitter, would have allowed me to reach an audience with thousands of people who know the act feeling I was describing and who may have connected with my picture because it was two African American women. Furthermore, I realized a little later on in my campaign that Instagram was not the platform to use to gain engagement. Although, I put the link to the meme in my bio under website I did not have many followers which affected the views I would receive. Finally, I think the Meme would have been more successful if I had a photo that showed the expression on my face so that my audience could understand what was going on even before reading the caption.

In conclusion, my viral content went well however, it could have been more successful if I was more diligent with hashtags.
