This presentation examines the Transactional Model of Stress and Coping (TMSC) and Uncertainty Reduction Theory (URT). Our group believes these two theories are applicable to situations that people often face on social media platforms. TMSC states stress is conditional to the person in their environment. Social media is both an outlet for people to cope with stress but also a place that can generate stress. URT states people use information-seeking strategies to reduce uncertainty when building relationships. People use these techniques both in real-life as the theory states but also online.
