As a child, your parents want to please you. They want to give you anything and everything possible to ensure that you are a happy kid. I know that you guys know that we all have the one parent who is going to say yes to anything you want… within reason.
Celebrities are just like us! Hear me out, even though they might definitely have more money than us, they still have to run their purchases by their parents. Nobody can just go around and buy whatever they want so I was aiming to create a relatable and creative meme. I had two main objectives:
- Get at least 300 views on Imgur
- Check!
- Relate to a different generation
- Seems likely.
What didn’t work –
Imgur:
I hit a few roadblocks early in the viral process. I surprisingly reached 500 views on Imgur relatively quick in the process by utilizing my social media platforms as well as networking. I posted on Facebook and Twitter; proceeding to send the link to friends and family to gain exposure. Unfortunately, Imgur randomly glitched and I had a setback with my number of views. In total, I believe I had 505 views (I know Imgur says otherwise.. but who are ya going to believe?)
Twitter ads:
As for twitter ads, I set my spend budget at $5 maximum and there was only $1 spent. Who knows why that happened? Not me, but if you figure it out – let me know 🙂 Anyways, with that $1 that was spent on April 9th, I got 162 impressions. If it had played out the way I planned, I imagine that my impressions would have been a bit higher. This process is a learning curve, so from my mistakes next time will go a lot smoother.
What worked –
I believe the message that I was trying to get across really resonated with people emotionally. I do think that Jay-Z, Beyonce and Blue Ivy provide me with a widespread demographic so my meme has the ability to appeal to a large audience.
