On April 15th, the national deadline to file taxes, Americans marched through cities across the country to demand that President Trump release his tax returns. He has notoriously refused to release them, despite all passed presidents doing so.
Marchers and supporters used #TaxMarch to celebrate the cause on Twitter, while some users used the hashtag to criticize the movement.
Users that supported and participated in the march made arguments claiming that it is the right of the American people to see the tax returns of their president. Tweets expressed the concern of the American people over whether President Trump’s business practices could have an influence on his political decisions. They are calling for financial transparency to put these concerns at ease.

There is not any meaningful sign of separation between Donald Trump’s businesses and government operations. Show us your taxes #TaxMarch

Those that did not support the #TaxMarch argued the relevancy of the president’s taxes. Additionally, the marchers were criticized by some Trump supporters who insinuated that the president’s tax returns are being criticized more severely than Obama’s birth certificate controversy.
