Having “top tweets” are definitely difficult for someone who started her Twitter from scratch. Gaining engagements and impressions are not as easy as one would think, and one must always be strategic in what they say, hashtag, and include in tweets. Check out my tips for the best ways to gain influence and engagements on Twitter, through a glimpse of my top ten tweets calculated through Twitter Analytics.

This most likely gained a ton of impressions because of the use of an infographic. The use of an image to explain statistics draws the attention of anyone on Twitter, and makes it easier for the audience to understand the message. Also, the two engagements are likes that are from people with over 5,000 followers each. These people are clearly influential on Twitter, and therefore increased my ratings.
.@tomhanks, care to tweet out my SUID card? The name is the same and everything! #NHsmc #flow http://t.co/eDDOKuHCj2

This tweet was popular for so many reasons:
- I tweeted an article that had a picture attached to it. Pictures always tend to gain the attention of tweeters, and an interesting headline normally does too.
- I tweeted at Tom Hanks, who is super famous and therefore influential as well. If a person were to search “@tomhanks”, they may see my tweet in the feed.
- I used comedy: I made a joke that since I had the same name as the person on the ID, he could tweet at me too. LOL worthy.
- The tweet was liked by @jmgrygiel, who has a ton of followers. She also showed the tweet to on the class projector, so students saw it that way as well.

I’ve found that using quotes in tweets tend to draw in many engagements and impressions. Everybody likes nice and inspiring quotes, and they are quick and easy to read via Twitter. Also, by quoting someone famous (a.k.a. Lania), more people will want to read and engage with the content.
You can't say this isn't cute #NHsmc #BabyAnimals https://t.co/KmbwZdaQF5

Impressions: 174 Engagements: 1 Engagement Rate: 0.6%
Well, first off, obviously everybody loves a picture of a cute dog! So that is saying something right there about why this tweet left so many impressions. Secondly, it is a quote tweet from the Twitter account “@BabyAnimalPics”, which apparently is the most influential account on Twitter. Clearly, they are doing something right, and by quote tweeting them other people will want to engage with the quote tweet as well.
What could be better than Coldplay and Kygo? #midnight #NHsmc https://t.co/FB9iFfpq2C

Once again, the use of media (attachment of Soundcloud link) helped increase the influence of this tweet. Also, by talking about two very famous musical influencers/keywords in pop culture (Coldplay and Kygo), the chances of visibility of the tweet increased as well. And of course, once again, the tweet was favorited by the one and only @jmgrygiel (thank you!).
True friends give you the leftover #DinosaurBBQ that their other friend gave them. Thanks @bmstephanis #NotAllHeroesWearCapes #NHsmc

I’m proud to say that this was my most engaged with tweet. Now, I wouldn’t call myself a comedian, but this tweet was pretty funny. I used a funny yet commonly used hashtag, “#NotAllHeroesWearCapes” to describe something very less than heroic (sorry Brit). I also used “#DinosaurBBQ”, which due to its large fan base is always talked about via the social media world. And, again, I got that like from @jmgrygiel.

Everyone loves to support other people’s achievements. For that reason, I think that this tweet received a good amount of engagements and impressions. Clicking the “like” button is so easy, and is a good way to say congratulations for someone’s hard work, without having to say anything in person. I also got three likes from fellow students in #NHsmc!
Facebook's "Safety Check" feature is a great example of how social media can be useful in a time of tragedy and uncertainty #NHsmc #Paris

Impressions: 302 Engagements: 6 Engagement Rate: 2.o%
This post received the most impressions of all of my tweets. This is most likely because I discussed something that was very timely and important (the Paris attacks), and used “#Paris”, which was a top trending hashtag at the time. By using trending hashtags, once can increase their chance of being seen greatly. Also, a person with over 15,ooo followers liked the tweet. Clearly, his influence was beneficial in increasing my impressions.
As a future media professional, I support #EqualPay for men and women in the media #NHsmc

By using another trending topic and hashtag, “#EqualPay”, I was able to reach many people on Twitter. The conversation around equal pay for women in the United States is one that is commonly talked about via social media, and that some people feel very passionate about. Therefore, if someone felt passionate about the topic, they may have retweeted, liked, or clicked on this tweet.

My most recent top ten tweet was about something that we discussed in class- the most popular emoji! This tweet definitely gained impressions and engagements for many reasons:
- It surrounded a topic that we discussed in class, shortly after we discussed it.
- It linked to a fun article- everyone loves emojis!
- Emojis are so in right now, and any tweet about an emoji is an exciting tweet.
- The topic was already trending on social media, I just reiterated it.
- It was liked AND retweeted by the influential @jmgrygiel.
So, there you have it, my top ten tweets! Clearly, the top tweets from earlier in the semester, and therefore when I had less of a following, did not receive as much feedback as my most recent top tweets. If I learned one thing from this, it would be to use pictures, quote important people, discuss trending topics and hashtags, and grab the attention of @jmgrygiel.
