The Chick-fil-A Scandal

Chick-fil-A became a viral political hashtag after the company announced that it would no longer be donating to organizations that are anti-LGBTQ. Chick-fil-A is known to be a Christian owned company, but after protests from the LGBTQ community, owners have decided to cut off donations to The Salvation Army and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, organizations that have been accused by activists of having anti-LGBTQ views. Twitter exploded with #ChickFilA, users sharing their different opinions. One side of the argument was support for Chick-fil-A’s decision.

Another side thought that although it was the right decision by Chick-fil-A to stop the donations, doing that was not enough. This group of users thought that more needs to be done to actually claim that your organization isn’t anti-LGBTQ.

The other side of the argument opposed both views and thought Chick-fil-A was losing their main business audience, the Christian community. This group seemed to get the most twitter attention online because of the aggressive comments users were making.

This viral hashtag was interesting to analyze because of the multitude of political views that came out from the decision of a chicken company, a decision that was extremely important to many extremely different communities.
