Objective: The objective of this viral meme challenge was to reach 500 views on Imgur and engage the community.
Background: My meme targets college students who often doze off during their classes. I used a photo of myself as a three-year-old that reflects the “mood” of the meme and makes it more comical. I was inspired by other college-related memes that poke fun at students and their everyday struggles.
Analysis of Campaign: My original campaign, a meme about Halloween, was not as successful. The meme did not reach 500 views on Imgur or receive many interesting reactions. I realized that the meme did not succeed because it was not relevant anymore – Halloween had already passed, and people were onto the next big thing.
This meme, however, was more successful, reaching 1,447 views. I believe it was successful because being tired in college is an issue many students face during the semester. It is a topic people can easily relate to. Sending the Imgur link directly to my peers and posting on Twitter worked well. Posting in Facebook groups did not work well because the link was taken down minutes later for going against community standards. No one created a derivative of my meme, but people seemed to relate to it.
Final engagement: My meme received 1,447 views on Imgur.
