Halloween Weekend Vibes Campaign Analysis

Part 2: Campaign Analysis: Halloween Weekend Vibes

Objective from Marketing Plan:

Background

In my meme, I am referencing the struggle of keeping track of your friends at college parties or generally during nights out. It is nearly impossible to leave the party with everyone you showed up with. I was shopping for groceries with my friends and she went to add spaghetti to the cart and one side of the box opened. The spaghetti went everywhere and as my friends and I were laughing I snapped a pic. When I brought my printed meme to class, I received great feedback from my peers and there were dots all over my paper. Since my meme was so successful during the in-class activity, I decided to use it and move forward with the campaign. As long as I am able to reach 500 views I will have met my goal but these were my future objectives to push my meme to be even more successful on online platforms.

Future Objectives/Goals

On Sunday Nov 3 and I am currently at 719 views. My future objectives are below:

  • November 6th – 900 views
  • November 10th – 1000 views
  • November 14th – 1500 views
  • November 18th – 2000 views

Internet Memes that Inspired My Meme

When creating this meme, I took inspiration from other memes that used real life photos that accurately represent how much of a mess life can be sometimes. One meme I referenced, attached below, was a picture of a girl that spilled ice cream all over herself with the caption “Me trying to get my life together.” Another meme, attached below, was a picture of a car that had duct tape and saran wrap covering up the space of a missing window. This meme was captioned “Me trying to pretend everything’s going fine in my life like.” These types of memes that make you laugh over life’s inconveniences and struggles are my favorite types of memes so I knew I wanted to recreate one of these for this assignment.

Analysis of Campaign (What Worked/What Didn’t):

The goal of this campaign was to make my meme go viral and so I planned to get at least 500 views so I could reach this goal. By sharing my meme, I hoped that everyone could relate to the common struggle of losing friends at a party, especially since it was posted during Halloween weekend. Overall, my meme campaign process was extremely successful. In addition to Imgur, I shared my meme with friends, family, Instagram, Twitter, and Snapchat. I did receive a number of views from outside platforms but I received the majority of my views from Imgur. The most successful part of my meme was that the theme was very relatable to the average person. It could be applied to someone who is either in college currently or has been in college in the past. I also used my own content so the meme overall was very original.

There are so many overused images for memes that the online world can sometimes lack creativity. My meme’s creativity and originality were a huge factor in making my meme go viral. My meme had “Halloween” in the title so I believe that could have prevented my meme from receiving even more views. If I had made my title something more broad or something that could be relevant year-round, my meme might have more widely circulated around Imgur. My hashtags included Halloween, relatable, college, party, and grocery shopping. I believe this group of hashtags worked well because individually they each apply to specific age groups. Grocery shopping content could reach an older audience whereas Halloween could reach all ages, especially younger kids. My strategic use of hashtags allowed me to attract a wide range of viewers. My meme performed very well on Imgur even though this was my first time using this platform but I definitely set unrealistic objectives for myself. I was able to receive 700 views in only a couple days so I figured I would try to push myself to go above and beyond. I was able to meet my first objective on my timeline but I did not reach my ideal number of views. I was able to receive 926 views and that exceeded 500 views so I am pleased with my meme’s overall performance. This viral challenge was a trial and error experience but I definitely learned a lot and had fun throughout the process.

Final Engagement Number: 926 Views

On Imgur, I was able to receive 926 views. I also received 5 comments and 24 points (up arrows). Of the five comments, one of my viewers commented “Easier to herd cats at times” and one viewer responded with a funny gif. I did not find derivatives of my meme but my friends loved my meme and took inspiration from it when making their own content.
