Traveling The World: A Viral Content Challenge

When making this Twitter Webcard to promote, I did it because I thought that the pretty images and vibrant colors would make people actually want to go abroad or inspire them to travel, also I figured it would make them want to see the full image and I would get views on Twitter that way. However, once I promoted my Tweet and paid $5 for it, my Impressions skyrocketed.

I promoted three tweets, all with the same Twitter Webcard and at the same time (12 PM) but with a different tweet on each one. The tweets are featured below:

The most popular Tweet was the one I put out on April 6th. That 4,067 impressions and 33 link clicks. What I found interesting is that when you click on the Tweet details, it doesn’t just show you what was promoted, but what was organic as well. So if I didn’t have any promotion, I would have had around 110 impressions on my Tweet.

In my marketing plan, I stated that I wanted 3 retweets and 5 likes. I actually sent out one of these tweets twice because I didn’t do the campaign right the first time. So the one Tweet that wasn’t factored into the campaign  received 2 retweets and 6 likes. Also, on it’s own it received a lot of attention.

My promoted campaign lasting from April 6th 12:00 PM to April 11th 12:00 PM generated a lot of views for me. I also got to see the breakdown of where those views came from and a lot of them come from iOS devices. All of my views are from people located in the United States, and majority of my views where from woman. Woman viewing my content doesn’t surprise me because I targeted it more towards them with the vibrant colors, and the kind of girly font I used for the meme.

What I also found interesting is that users on Imgur can view my content without even knowing that I tweeted about it. So I got views on that as well – 2,000 to be exact.

I wouldn’t say that my content has become viral, but for my I’ll take the 2,000 views and the engagements that I got because thats probably as viral as I’ll ever get!
