Unintentionally Conceited: Top 10 #NHsmc Tweets for Spring 2016

Social Media Presence

Over the course of the past three months, my Twitter following increased by 20.5%, having gained 125 followers. My Klout score went up from 44 to 62. I think a large contributor to this increase is related to the role I played in the #IBleedOrange campaign during Syracuse’s run in the NCAA’s Men’s and Women’s March Madness tournament, not so much this course. I’ve been on Twitter since June 2011, so I didn’t see as much of a hike as some of my peers did who joined the Twitter world just this semester.

My top tweets overall were about Syracuse and were retweeted, and received engagement from the @SyracuseU handle. I participated in a variety of activities on behalf of the university, including traveling to Houston and rallying our students in Syracuse during the Women’s national championship game. Below is one of my tweets that received ample attention during the #IBleedOrange campaign:

20 retweets, 59 favorites, 11,791 impressions, and 986 engagements. Taye Diggs, a famous actor, and Syracuse University alum, quote retweeted this tweet! If you compare this sort of engagement to my top 10 tweets for the course, you’ll notice I received far more engagement across the board here, which is why I attribute my hike in Klout and Twitter following to the #IBleedOrange campaign, not this course, even with the viral content challenge.

Every single one of these tweets has a media of some sort, ranging from a video to photos. Six out of the ten, which happen to be the top seven, include photos of me. Most of the tweets are in the late morning, 10am-11am or late at night, 10pm-11pm, which I find to be the two time gaps during the day when my peers are on social media the most.

The tweet the received the most engagement was a tease to the Vice Chancellor and Provost announcement. It was a search I worked on for ten months and I was very excited to introduce our Provost-Designate to the Syracuse community. Once the announcement was made to our University community, I blue-lined the link to the SU News article to the video tease.

Clearly the video tease worked! Turnout at the event was incredible.

I didn’t intend on the tweet about the job promotion (#3) to receive so much attention! It was taken at Ronald Reagan National Airport when I was trying to make a flight connection and thought it would be something cute to send to my parents. A lot of Syracuse students, alums, administrators, professors, Trustees, follow me on Twitter, and I know most of them because of the work I do for the University – and so I think that is how it got a lot of engagement.

Overall, photos of myself got the most attention during this time period. Didn’t mean for it to be that way, but it’s good information to know in the future!
