Will Politics Cost Us Our Planet?

The first three tweets represent the deniers of climate change and the last three tweets show people in favor of taking action to slow climate change. This is a hotly debated topic, one of which if science is involved, should not really be a debate at all. Because our Republican president does not believe climate change is a threat, his supporters believe what he says. This is incredibly problematic because political viewpoints should not misconstrue facts. We have non-experts giving their unwarranted two cents on a scientific matter. The issue of climate change reveals a deep division in American culture. It appears it is not acceptable to be a “centrist” anymore; the 2016 election has shown that political ideas that are taken to the extremes are what people look for. The whole coining of climate change as “real” or “fake” comes from the overused expression of “fake news,” which in itself was started by the President, Donald Trump, which threatens the very being of American democracy. This “debate” about climate change is polarizing and is talked about among liberals and conservatives, both of whom look to sources that support their beliefs to substantiate their respective arguments.
