One of the major current events that sparked a great debate this fall was the confirmation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh. Dr. Christine Ford accused Kavanaugh of sexually assault that while the two were in high school. This accusation surfaced at a vital time in Kavanaugh’s career. The following are are a collection of tweets curated by women that either support or oppose the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh:
It’s a sad day for women, and men. This process was a complete sham – omitting crucial information. Absolutely no integrity! #Kavanaugh is an angry, out-of-control rageoholic at best and bad for our country. @cspan

Hi, my name is Barb, I am a sexual assault victim, and I am VERY glad that Justice Kavanaugh was confirmed, as I am FIRM SUPPORTER of due process and being presumed innocent until PROVED guilty using EVIDENCE, not just uncorroborated stories. Nice to meet you. #MAGA #Kavanaugh

#MeToo has made it possible to literally accuse a man of sexual assault/rape with zero evidence & ruin his life & career. It is beyond despicable & makes it even harder for genuine victims to find the strength to come forward. Innocent until proven guilty! #Kavanaugh #Ronaldo

Remember this: Women have nothing to gain & everything to lose in coming forward in these situations. When all is said & done, #DrChristineBlaseyFord is displaced & living w/ death threats. Meanwhile, #Kavanaugh sits on the highest court in the land w/ security protection. https://t.co/X0SdQaWMLY

“Today, I am furious. Not with the fake fury exhibited by #Kavanaugh, spurred on by a life of privilege finally colliding with just the beginning of the consequences of his injustice, but with the fury of witnessing a heinous double standard.”

I am an avid women’s rights activist, but when it comes to politics, I am distant and consider myself independent. This subject is very touchy, but monumental in terms of American history and social justice. I found tweets that occurred from mid September to mid October using #Kavanaugh. Women who side with Kavanaugh argue that Kavanaugh is innocent until proven guilty. The supporting tweets also argue that the evidence presented against Kavanaugh was insufficient and Dr. Ford was slandering a republican to further her democratic agenda. Women who disdain Kavanaugh believe that this decision unrightfully gave privilege to a “bad” guy, making it harder for woman and victims to speak out about sexual assault. In conclusion, the debate over the confirmation of Kavanaugh divided Female tweeters.
