Can 4 words sum up an entire year?

As 2017 winds down, the twitterverse is trying to summarize the whole year with the hashtag: #2017In4Words

Here are how some people are describing the year:

This tweet commemorates the benefit concert held by Ariana Grande in wake of the Manchester shooting. These words suggest that through all the turmoil of the year, love still conquers all.

This one commemorates the Women’s March, calling for unification over polarization.

And going off that, some believe this was a strong year for women.

Conversely though, others are focusing on the politicization of this year, with people from both sides of the aisle weighing in. From Democrats blaming Republicans…

…to those who are still reveling over last year’s election.

Overall, it seems as though people have mixed views about 2017: Some people focusing on the political successes or turmoil, and others focusing on love and unification.

But, of course, there some people who are just ready for 2018…

  1. This hashtag was one I followed closely. I find it interesting how creative people can get with just 4 words. Nice job showing both sides of the argument!

  2. Leah, I really enjoyed this post. I think it was a really unique way of approaching this assignment as it was not just two sides of an argument, but many people have different opinions, yet in a way all of the tweets you chose can be related if you really look into it. I had not seen this hashtag before but I am glad you introduced me!

  3. Leah, great analysis of the hashtag. Choosing to embed the tweets as you went along was the best way to structure this post. It seemed that this year in fact was the rise of women, there was A LOT that went on. It unfortunate though that politics has to play a role in it though, the last tweet made me laugh out loud!

  4. I think this was an amazing post, as this hashtag is obviously very timely. This is a hashtag in which anyone on Twitter can take part in, as we all have been apart of 2017. You chose tweets that showed many different aspects of 2017, which is what this hashtag was intended to do.

  5. You chose a great hashtag to do your research on for this blog post. It is no surprise to me that most of the tweets revolved around the highly controversial U.S. election.
