#ChickFilA announced that it will no longer provide funding or donations to anti-LGBTQ groups.

The trending hashtag #ChickFilA comes from the announcement that the company will stop funding towards the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Paul Anderson Youth Home and the Salvation Army, organizations that have criticized LGBTQIA+ allies.

The verified Chick-fil-A twitter handle has not tweeted about this press release. Chief Operating Officer Tim Tassopoulos said in an exclusive interview with bisnow.com, “…we thought we needed to be clear about our message.”

There is no shortage of applauders and criticizers. So far as I have been combing through tweets, I have seen many Twitter accounts criticize this move saying Chick-fil-A is not standing up for its moral integrity.

Many accounts are in favor of this and call it long overdue.

The language used in some of the tweets criticizing defunding these charities is demeaning and borders on hate speech. I did not include the most vulgar tweets as I don’t feel comfortable reposting.

Other tweets speak about how society can use their dollars and platforms to pressure large corporations.

A few Twitter accounts suggest people are cautious because of Chick-fil-A’s past history.

Sarcasm was common throughout the hashtagged tweets.
