Overall I would consider my viral content challenge a success I received good engagement on my twitter web card and on my meme that posted to imgur. At the end of the day though I probably could have tweaked some things in order to achieve more engagement. Here is my twitter web card, I did promoted only but I did post it to twitter before I started the twitter ad campaign.
We all had those moments freshman year, really didn't appreciate the chair #Freshman #Lockthedoor #Friends #NHsmc https://t.co/pvfVsJwpB7

The reason I chose to use this image was because throughout class I’ve noticed that making fun of myself or just highlighting funny or entertaining things I did usually meant higher engagement. I feel like this is an aspect I succeeded in for the viral content challenge. You have to be able to laugh at yourself and it helped me in this case. Although this was my original tweet before the I started my twitter ads campaign I was able to get 11 retweets and 12 likes. It may not be that impressive but I pinned the tweet to my profile and promoted it throughout the week. As for my twitter web card I got fairly decent engagement on it.
The highest engagement I received on was only 12 but it added up to 53 total engagements. Again, you would probably like to see more but overall a good showing. One interesting aspect to my viral content challenge was my meme on imgur.
If you look at the analytics I had a crazy amount of views the first day I posted my tweet, and this was before my twitter web card campaign kicked in. I was never able to replicate anywhere close to the amount views I had on the first day. This is something I can’t really explain, maybe it was the novelty of the content the first day but I never recaptured the interest in the imgur link. Here is the original post to imgur.
The final count was 893 views but again most of those came in the first day the picture was uploaded. This was puzzling to me but if you consider what happened, my meme did go somewhat viral in about 24 hours, it just lost steam after that.
In my social media plan I stated my objective as three separate things,
- Objective is to promote nostalgia among social media users when they think about their college days
- Alert incoming freshman about the some of the classic mistakes freshman in college make
- Remind everyone why college was the best four years of their life
I don’t know if I really hit on all aspects of that and maybe I missed the boat on what exactly the objective should be but that’s what I was going for in general. Some things that went wrong for me is that I didn’t really receive any direct engagement from my followers. I was hoping to get some of them to share some moments like I had from freshman year but it didn’t happen, maybe I over estimated their willingness to share those pictures but I think I could have succeeded more if I was to get my followers to engage with me directly, not just with likes and retweets. Something I did that I think helped was that I pinned my original tweet to my profile on twitter, if anyone went to my handle that was the first tweet they would see.
I would consider my attempt as creating viral content a success but you learn from the mistakes you made. I would have liked to see more engagements on my twitter web card somewhere around the 100 mark and hit over 1000 views on the imgur upload. It was a learning experience and one that went better than expected in my mind, I was nervous about this assignment but at the end of it, there are a lot takeaways from the experience.
What not to do #Freshman year?? you can learn from me https://t.co/pvfVsJO0ZH #NHsmc
