When Your Diet Starts Tomorrow #Carboloading

The objective of this Viral Content Challenge was to make my “#Carboloading” meme go viral and identify and develop an audience within the social media community through advertising on Twitter and marketing on social media platforms. My initial goals for this campaign was to get 10 retweets, 15 favorites, and 50 engagements on Twitter.

The meme itself consisted of a women, obviously splurging on three giant tubs of pasta, as her “last cheat meal” in preparation for her “diet” that is supposed to happen the following day.

After analyzing this Viral Content Challenge, I realized that I did not reach my initial goals of 10 retweets and 15 favorites on my Tweet. However, I exceeded my expectations of receiving 50 engagements on Twitter, and ended up with a result of 81 engagements.

What I found interesting was the 2,079 views and 8 points my Imgur picture received. On Thursday, 4/7/16, at 12:00 p.m., was when my tweet received the most engagements throughout the entire campaign, as it received a total of 22 engagements that day. Whereas, from Friday, 4/8/16, to Monday, 4/11/16, the tweets only received an average of 6-8 engagements daily.

Between the Twitter card engagement and the Imgur views, the campaign had a total of 2,161 engagements, which I believe to be a successful campaign.

Campaign Analysis

After analyzing the above campaign analytics, I received 3.74% total engagement from Twitter and 96.25% of engagement came directly from Imgur. In essence, Imgur seemed to be the more powerful tool in this Viral Content Challenge campaign. I believe that Imgur was more powerful, because I also promoted the content on my other social media platforms, such as Facebook. This could be due to the fact that I have a much higher number of followers on Facebook and less followers on Twitter.

The first four days of my campaign, April 4 to April 8, my content on Imgur generated very little views, ranging from 7-10 views. However, on April 9, the meme generated 71 views. On April 11, my content reached its highest peak and received a total of 1,692 views. Throughout this weeklong campaign, my content received 8 points on Imgur and a total of 17 ups and 8 downs. It also generated discussion within the community as other users left comments on the page. All in all, I believe this campaign to be pretty successful. Although I did not reach my expectations of retweets and likes on Twitter, I received way more engagement with this content than I initially anticipated.
