Dogs + Memes = A Winning Combination

My sister’s dog is–without a doubt–the cutest dog in the world. I’m lucky enough to capture her comedic poses and odd faces and produce gems like this one:

Is Dis How U Yoga???

My initial objective when launching this viral marketing campaign was to engage with dog lovers, and reach the tangible, quantitative goals set in place. These goals included gaining at least 300+ views on imgur, and 100+ likes and 25+ retweets on Twitter.

While the promoted webcard did not receive the number of likes and retweets that I aimed for, the meme did get 2,045 views on imgur.

After publishing it to the imgur community, the number of views greatly increased–most likely because I attached popular tags like #dogs and #funny.

The webcard did make a number of impressions in the Twitter-sphere, with a total of 80 engagements. A little more thanĀ half of those were link clicks to the imgur-hosted meme.

In retrospect, the meme may have gotten more attention if it was more relatable content. For example, if I were to make a reference that resonated with pet owners, it may have been more successful on Twitter. The analytics from this marketing campaign show that people passively engaged with the content rather than sharing it with their networks too. Though the meme racked up a few thousand views on imgur alone, it would have been even more successful if it was shareable content.

(I still think she’s the cutest dog in the world, though!)
