Goal: gain 300 views on Imgur

The objective of my viral content challenge was to gain 300 impressions on Imgur by using a social media plan. I posted to several meme facebook pages, as well as tweeting and retweeting my meme on twitter.

While my Twitter campaign was somewhat successful I had problems with facebooks algorithm flagging my posts as spam. When I attempted to appeal this decision facebook was very unresponsive. Often by the time they got around to doing something about my posts, it was too late and the meme was buried. In the end, I believe this hurt me greatly as I was expecting to use this format for most of my impressions. unfortunately, these problems persisted and the posts continued to be flagged on Facebook. I managed to gain some traction later on when I posted to some minor Reddit forums however by that time it was too late. My final engagement number was 241, significantly lower than expected. Reddit seemed to be the most successful with jumps in views with each post there. Twitter was next with several clicks and over 110 impressions. Facebook was the least successful part of my campaign with significant problems with the algorithm and getting flagged.

Summary

This has been very helpful to me in learning the difficulties of social media algorithms and content management. getting something to go viral can be quite difficult and seemingly random at times. I can take the lessons learned here and apply them to my future projects.
