My Twitter Top 10

Over the course of this semester, I definitely grew more accustomed to Twitter as a platform. I was reluctant at first, grasping onto the comfort and familiarity of Facebook. But in the music and television industry, Twitter is King. I knew establishing myself in the “Twitterverse” would need to happen eventually. So, here are my top 10 tweets from the past 5 weeks. They are listed in chronological order and I used Twitter Analytics to evaluate the impressions and engagements for each post.

Impressions: 258 Engagement: 18 Engagement Rate: 7.0%

The old tape machine in Newhouse’s studio 3 is a perfect example of a real life social media, albeit a bit outdated. #bringbackthemixtape was a hashtag I thought I had made up, however, after a quick search in Twitter I found that it actually had traction.

Impressions: 250 Engagement: 10 Engagement Rate: 4.0%

Making the GIF in this tweet was very satisfying. If only I could’ve gotten Gracie (the dog) to spin perpetually in a smooth loop – as if she’s looking for the next Baha Men album.

Impressions: 284 Engagement: 34 Engagement Rate: 12.0%

Dogs will always rule the Twitter feeds. The cuteness and charm of a friendly canine face seems to lead to more engagement from my followers – a trend I noticed and tried to capitalize on from then forward. I also used RiteTag to determine that #dog was the most effective hashtag to use at the time.

Impressions: 700 Engagement: 24 Engagement Rate: 3.4%

News Engagement Day at Newhouse was a great opportunity to connect with others in the school through the associated hashtags. This was my second-highest tweet in impressions, perhaps due to including the @NewhouseSU handle. The picture was a creative commons image of Newhouse 3.

Impressions: 221 Engagement: 4 Engagement Rate: 1.4%

Admittedly, Father John Misty is my favorite artist. And, in fact, I did miss this interview with his new wife when it was shared around a few days prior. I had trouble staying under the character limit, and I’m sad that I didn’t notice the messed up @fatherjohnmisty handle.

Impressions: 196 Engagement: 2 Engagement Rate: 1.0%

This tweet was great because it was interactive and generated a few new followers and a tweet back from @HipsterSound. It’s also a great piece of stock content for those who enjoy the pitter-patter of rain with soft jazz playing underneath.

Impressions: 321 Engagement: 21 Engagement Rate: 6.5%

As General Manager of Syracuse University Recordings, I felt this was a perfect way to engage with our artists and promote a campus event – even after the fact. This was the first post on Twitter to have the hashtag #SUrecordings, a tag that SUR will continue to use in the future.

Impressions: 305 Engagement: 34 Engagement Rate: 11.1%

In an attempt to replicate the engagement with my previous dog posts, I managed to get a decently high engagement rate. In retrospect, I could’ve included a Twitter handle or two in order to reach out to friends or family that like my dog photos.

Impressions: 858 Engagement: 28 Engagement Rate: 3.3%

After capturing this striking picture of an unseasonably warm November day, I had to share it. It generated 2 retweets, which most likely contributed to the high amount of impressions compared to my other posts. I thought #SUnnyday was a nice play on words, too.

Impressions: 193 Engagement: 19 Engagement Rate: 9.8%

I went to a show at Funk ‘N Waffles in Downtown Syracuse to see my friends in Rabbit in the Rye and ended up being pleasantly surprised by the opening act, Grayak. I got their card and thought it would be a great example for a title safe graphic.
