Viral Content Campaign Analysis

Objective: To create a meme that gets 500 views on Imgur.

The meme on the Internet that inspired my meme is the one of Harry Styles waving to the camera and the caption says, “When you accidentally like your crushes post from 67 weeks ago” and then below it says, “If someone asks where I am, I’ve left the country.” A lot of times people will “stalk” someone they like on Instagram, go really deep into their old posts, and then accidentally like a post of theirs from 3 years ago. This is an awful feeling because you know that person will get the notification you liked their post so you just feel really embarrassed and try to play it off cool. That sort of embarrassment and trying to play it off cool by waving in this meme is what inspired mine.

I originally had a different meme that I posted to Imgur because it got six dot votes in class so I thought it would do well, but it only got around 300 views. The other meme was a picture of my friend as a baby with her hair really messy and the caption was, “When you fall asleep doing homework at 7pm and wake up at 3am.” I embedded the Imgur link to it:

I was trying to be really original with this meme by using this original picture, but I realized other people might not find it as funny since the picture I used isn’t really recognizable as a meme. So I created a new meme from scratch. I used this picture of the fish from SpongeBob because I think it is a really simple image that captures the embarressment people feel after they have accidentally liked a crushes Instagram post from really long ago. The fish from SpongeBob is more recognizable and so I think it captures peoples attention better than just a random picture of a baby. I also think the caption of the new one I created is relatable to more people which is why it got more views. I shared it to many of my friends and family and they all agreed that it was a lot more funny than the first meme I had posted just because the expression of the fish perfectly captures the feelings someone has when they like an old post of someone and then see them in person and try to play it off cool. So the second meme I created was a lot more successful due to a better picture, and more relatable caption.

Final engagement: 433

No one created a derivative of my meme.
