Influence Growth & Analysis

PART 1: INFLUENCE

When first starting this course, I was not actively using Twitter. For the class, I decided to use a Twitter (@katelhirsch) account that had a very low amount of followers. I started the class with 1 follower and ended with 18 followers. After calculating the percentage of growth, I ended up growing the amount of followers I had by 1,700%. What worked in gaining new followers was that I followed a lot of people in the class, who also followed me back. Additionally, I followed many family members and outside friends, who in turn, followed me as well. I think that I could have gained more followers if I were more active on Twitter by liking and retweeting more people’s tweets. Additionally, I only tweeted for the designated class assignments, but I did not tweet for personal use, which could have increased my following.

PART 2: EXECUTION

My top 10 posts were mainly Twitter posts, but I also did well on some of my Instagram posts when I used a variety of hashtags and filters in order to obtain likes from people who did not follow me.

This post on Instagram was a picture of my meme for the Viral Meme Challenge. It got the most engagement out of all of my posts throughout the course. I think that this post did very well because I used so many popular hashtags that would generate likes from people who I did not know. I got 50 likes on this post, which exceeded all of my other posts by far. Additionally, someone who does not follow me commented on the post because they found it through one of the hashtags.

This tweet was a conversation with Kenny Albert, a famous sportscaster. I think it did really well because he actually responded to my tweet thanking me. I received 7 likes, 1 retweet, and 2 comments. I got 2,101 impressions and 47 total engagements, which was very high. I was honored that Kenny Albert responded to my tweet so quickly, especially because his account is verified.

This post on Twitter was promoting my meme. This is where I originally created the meme and posted it for the challenge. On this post, I received 12 likes and one comment back. Furthermore, I received 240 impressions and 65 total engagements. I believe that this post did well because it was funny and relatable.

This tweet was a GIF that I created and I also added a funny caption that is very relatable. “Friends” is a really popular TV show and many people are attached to the characters. I believe that this tweet did well because people understood the GIF and thought it was funny. I received 5 likes, 265 impressions, 49 media views, and 8 total engagements. Many of my posts that include visuals, such as photos and GIFs, did better than other posts because they are more interactive.

This tweet was a poll I created, asking people if tie dye or cheetah print is more popular. It got 5 votes, 1 like, 170 impressions, and 10 total engagements. This tweet received a lot of impressions because it was fun and interactive. It was my first time posting a poll on Twitter, so I think that many people liked it. Furthermore, the poll asked a “trendy” question about styles that many people my age believe are really popular right now.

This tweet was based off of a class assignment where we campaigned for a certain cause. I think it did well because the tweet discussed an important topic and was informative. It received 3 likes, 166 impressions, and 9 total engagements. I think it would have been even more effective if people retweeted it in order to spread the word more.

This tweet was an ICYMI about “Friends.” I think it was a popular tweet because Friends is a very well known and loved TV show. On this post, I got 3 likes, 131 impressions, and 11 total engagements. I also used a fun hashtag #illbethereforyou , which could have raised attention because it relates to the show and was unique.

This tweet was recognizing Veterans’ Day. It got a good amount of attention because it was both personal and important. This tweet received 3 likes, 78 impressions, and 6 total engagements. By incorporating a tweet by the New York Times, more people saw my post.

This instagram post is a boomarang of my roommates doing homework. It got 21 views and 2 comments. This post worked well because it was unlike anything I had posted before. I also decorated the boomerang with fun fonts, which made it more visually pleasing. I wish I had gotten more comments on this post, but my view count was high, especially for the number of followers I have.

This post was a latergram from the summer and it received a lot of good feedback. I got 11 likes and 5 comments on this post. Additionally, I used a VSCO filter, which is something that we learned about in this course. I think incorporating VSCO into an Instagram photo was really helpful because it brightened my feed and was aesthetically pleasing.
